The brown-coal business is, in highly parasitic. It lives off the despoliation of the countryside, the destruction of rural life and the havoc wrecked on the lives of old people, who are its most tragic victims. The strip-mining of brown coal appears to be profitable only because its ecological follow-up costs are borne by the general public and its human costs are wilfully ignored.
